The actual story itself was interesting ! And enjoyable enough for me to read but the authors note-the preface took me so long to get through and I literally kept falling asleep while reading it that I pushed off reading this book for months。 Once past that I found the plot line intriguing, and the way Hawthorne describes things poetic but very windy。 The language was rough on me, I’m not great at the style of writing from this time I find it a bit too complex to enjoy as a light read so yea。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 O carte care m-a intrigat, deși nu aveam prea mari speranțe judecând după primele pagini。 Foarte interesant cum, deși intuisem cine e tatăl micuței Pearl, parcă nu-mi venea să cred。 De altfel, nu-mi dădeam seama cum și de ce s-ar fi putut întâmpla ca Hester să aibă legături amoroase cu un preot。 Fascinant roman, în orice caz。 O lectură de care aveam nevoie pentru a-mi readuce pofta pentru citit。

Well, thank god it wasn't all as bad as the intro/custom house bit! If you bailed before making it through that I don't blame you。 The story itself wasn't bad but it was hard to separate the story from the fact that Hawthorne seems to be a snooty religious nut。 Plus his comments on, and treatment of, women just tick me off。 Well, thank god it wasn't all as bad as the intro/custom house bit! Oh, my。 Slow, rambling, hard to slog through。 All I can say is that now I can check it off my list。

I listened to the audiobook of this and understood it a million times more than when I tried to read it in high school。 It didn't even seem complicated at all。 I think that's a testament to how much my reading, especially classic reading, skills have improved throughout the years。 Note: turns out that, even though the audible book said "unabridged", it was abridged。。。 that kinda sucks so maybe I'll read it again in the future。 I listened to the audiobook of this and understood it a million times more than when I tried to read it in high school。 It didn't even seem complicated at all。 I think that's a testament to how much my reading, especially classic reading, skills have improved throughout the years。 Note: turns out that, even though the audible book said "unabridged", it was abridged。。。 that kinda sucks so maybe I'll read it again in the future。 。。。more

This was interesting。 I don’t think I fully grasped everything that I was meant to, but it was intriguing and entertaining for the couple of hours that the audiobook lasted for。

Very lengthy in parts, but overall, I thought it was an interesting read!

Nathaniel Hawthorne is a professional flop and this book serves as a physical embodiment of his flopiness。 He should've put the pen down and gone back to bed。 Absolute literary terrorism for so many children across America。 Hester is kinda mother slayer though so it gets 2 stars solely for her。 Nathaniel Hawthorne is a professional flop and this book serves as a physical embodiment of his flopiness。 He should've put the pen down and gone back to bed。 Absolute literary terrorism for so many children across America。 Hester is kinda mother slayer though so it gets 2 stars solely for her。 。。。more

CAWPILE: 5。00/10。00I'll admit, I ended up enjoying the LibriVox audiobook。 Cori Samuel managed to breathe life into this otherwise boring novel and its characters。 She made this at least somewhat good。 I loved the different voices she used for the characters! Gave them certainly more personality than the writer。So if you decide to put yourself through this hell, try to at least bless your ears by going with some audiobook (free public domain ones, please don't pay for it) and thank me later。To b CAWPILE: 5。00/10。00I'll admit, I ended up enjoying the LibriVox audiobook。 Cori Samuel managed to breathe life into this otherwise boring novel and its characters。 She made this at least somewhat good。 I loved the different voices she used for the characters! I finally got the chance to read this book for my literature classes and it was just like dipping myself in a bowl of fire。 No matter how the story is told-not necessarily degrading or underestimating, just in case it was not your cup of tea since i have seen many people criticizing harshly- it will stick to your mind and make you feel like swimming in muddy waters。 I felt as sick as Dimmesdale, the burning letter on my chest and the chill of the heights。 Would definitely recommend everyone and I finally got the chance to read this book for my literature classes and it was just like dipping myself in a bowl of fire。 No matter how the story is told-not necessarily degrading or underestimating, just in case it was not your cup of tea since i have seen many people criticizing harshly- it will stick to your mind and make you feel like swimming in muddy waters。 I felt as sick as Dimmesdale, the burning letter on my chest and the chill of the heights。 Would definitely recommend everyone and rating it 5/5。 Atmosphere is everything!!! 。。。more

I thought at first I was going to hate the book, and it was a little slow at some points (especially since I was taking lots of notes) but the story had lots of depth and value。 It took some time to get used to Hawthorne’s writing, but I appreciated how he wrote the story and I think his writing made me appreciate the story he was telling more。 The character development was wonderfully written too, and I liked how he described how they changed and why they were changing。 I am glad I am finally d I thought at first I was going to hate the book, and it was a little slow at some points (especially since I was taking lots of notes) but the story had lots of depth and value。 It took some time to get used to Hawthorne’s writing, but I appreciated how he wrote the story and I think his writing made me appreciate the story he was telling more。 The character development was wonderfully written too, and I liked how he described how they changed and why they were changing。 I am glad I am finally done with it 😆 。。。more
